Powertalk meeting:21st September.
It was a small select few at last night’s Powertalk monthly meeting. The Toastmaster on the night, had their Zoom connection hit by a dumb gremlin but was able to hear . Not a deaf gremlin but a dumb gremlin. Zoom master PJ Claffey was unflappable however and kept the meeting ,as stand in, Toastmaster on track.
There were two main activities . Chris O’Byrne ran an informative workshop on the 2019 World Championship speech “Unbelievable Story” by Aaron Beverly. This workshop was helpful in that Chris gave a series of points to assess the quality of the speech. As it is said after important politically charged meetings a full , frank, and lively discussion ensued.
One conclusion from the group discussion was that such a winning speech could often be heard in our own Toastmaster clubs.
The second activity was a lively topics session adjudicated by Topics Master Bobby Buckley.
Such topics as “infuriating traits, what keeps you awake at night, favourite word, important lessons that life has taught” . Many there got to unburden themselves on such contentious subjects as punctuality , misogyny, and the fairness or unfairness of the Leaving Cert of 2020.
One advantage of “Zoom” table topics is that each toastmaster in attendance become involved in the topics as if everyone were chatting on the same sofa. They virtually are!
Brendan Haughton and Vincent McNally sent their apologies for not being at the meeting . We look forward to their return at the next meeting on Monday October 19th.
In light of Division contest being held in November the next Powertalk meeting in October will be the Club Humorous Contest and Table topics contest. Please contact VPE PJ Claffey if you wish to compete or help as a judge , timer etc.
Most importantly if you wish to compete or be a judge you are required to be a paid-up Toastmaster by the end of September. Please send remittances to Treasurer Larry Power, asap. Only a few days left!
See you on October 19th.7.30 pm.
Bobby Buckley-President.
